How to find School for Swans

Entering Alexandria from the West along Prince Street – follow Prince to S. Fairfax St. Turn right on S. Fairfax and go to southern end of the 400 block – 430 S. Fairfax is the last house on the left – red brick behind a red brick wall with an iron gate. Park on Wilkes Street beside the house. Do not double park on Fairfax Street. Follow the flagstone path on the right to basement steps – enter through basement door.

Entering Alexandria from North via GW parkway – the Parkway becomes N. Washington St. which becomes S. Washington St. as you cross King St. Turn left on Wilkes St, the 4th street after King. Follow Wilkes for three blocks, then it splits to flank a RR tunnel – at the top of the split you are on S. Fairfax and 430 S. Fairfax is on the N.E. corner. There is a small blue mailbox on a concrete post on the corner. Park on Wilkes St. beside the house. Enter through front gate, turn right and follow steps to basement door.

Entering Alexandria from the South, via GW Parkway – follow S. Washington St. to Wilkes St. Turn right on Wilkes (Chevy Chase Bank/Firehook Bakery on the right corners) – follow Wilkes for 3 blocks, then it splits to flank a RR tunnel for the last block, and at the top of the tunnel you are on S. Fairfax St. The house is cater-cornered across the intersection – a red brick house behind a red brick wall with an iron gate. A small blue mailbox on a concrete post is on the corner. Please park on Wilkes St. beside the house. Do not ever double park on Fairfax St. for it is narrow, on a bus route and cars often do not stop as they should at the intersection . Go through gate, turn right and follow flagstone path to basement steps – enter through basement door.

Always pick up children from the basement level. When we are teaching, we cannot leave the children unattended to go upstairs to answer the doorbell.
