Adult Ballet Classes

Interested in taking ballet for the first time?  Danced as a child or teen and interested in revisiting ballet as an adult?  Join us!

We offer 2 Adult Ballet classes per week:

Mondays at 7:15pm  (75 minutes)
Adult Intermediate Ballet, a little experience preferred but not required for this class, which moves at a faster pace than our Beginning Adult Ballet class on Wednesdays. Adult Intermediate Ballet focuses more on technique than learning steps. If you’re a beginner, we suggest you begin with our Wednesday Adult Beginning Ballet. That said, Beginners may attend the Monday class but should expect the faster pace with less explanation of basic steps. Some have jumped right in and learned by watching and following.

Wednesdays at 7:15pm (75 minutes)
Adult Beginning Ballet, a class designed for learning the fundamentals of ballet in a small group class of typically 4-5 people.

    ATTIRE
You may wear anything that is comfortable and you can move in. Yoga clothes, leggings with a tee shirt, or ballet attire if you already have it.  We are very casual and welcoming and want everyone to be comfortable.  If you don’t have ballet slippers yet you can wear socks or bare feet.  If you plan to purchase ballet slippers, we recommend the following sources:
    • To be sure of sizing (particularly for shoes), we recommend visiting one of the following local businesses:
      • Liesl Dancewear (Woodbridge, VA), a store that exclusively sells dance- and gymnastics-wear.
      • The Cinnamon Tree (2 locations: Herndon and Manassas, VA), a store that exclusively sells dance-wear.
      • Footlights (Frederick, MD), a store that exclusively sells dance- and theater-wear.Staff at these stores are very knowledgeable about the different styles of dance shoes and correct sizing. Students can try on shoes and make sure that the fit is correct. They also carry dance apparel.
    • Online retailers Discount Dance and Dancewear Solutions are convenient however choosing the correct size remotely can be challenging and return shipping can be costly.  Two ballet slippers we recommend that typically work well:
      – Bloch Women’s Performa Dance Shoe on Amazon
      – Bloch Dance Girls’ Performa Stretch Canvas Split Sole Ballet Shoe/Slipper on Amazon
    ARRIVAL
We are a small school with a tiny lobby so adults arrive just a few minutes before class since our children’s classes run right up until the adult classes, with a super quick turnover.

    PARKING
There’s a Safeway a block away with a small auxiliary parking lot with about 6 spaces on the corner of Wilkes and S. Royal Streets. You can park there and see our ballet school from the lot. Walk up the short 1-block hill of Wilkes Street and you’re at the studio.  Enter through our front gates and take the stairs on your right to the LOWER LEVEL studio entrance.  It’s a large brick townhouse on the corner of Wilkes and S. Fairfax St.

    RECITAL
Fifteen of our adult students performed for the first time in our May 2026 recital, while other served as volunteers at the dress rehearsal and on recital day. Please let us know at [email protected] if you’d like to participate in this big event for our little swans.
